Most of what Sohbats makes needs nothing from you at all. The Qur'an reader and the prayer times run entirely in your browser or on your phone. We do not run advertising, we do not use analytics, and there is no tracking in any of it.

Prayer times and your location
Prayer times are astronomy: given a latitude, longitude and date, they can be worked out exactly. The calculation happens on your device, so your location is never sent to us. If you tap use my location, your phone gives the app your coordinates and the app uses them on the spot; they are stored on your device and nowhere else. If instead you pick a city from the list, nothing is requested at all. The compass, when you use it for the Qibla, reads the device's magnetometer locally.
If you make an account
An account exists only so the mosques you follow can be on your phone and your laptop at once. We store your email address, a display name if you give one, your chosen city and settings, and the list of mosques you follow. That is the whole of it. Sign-in is a link sent to your email — we never see or store a password. The data lives in Supabase on servers in Canada, and access is restricted so that no account can read another's.
You can delete your account and everything in it by writing to info@sohbats.com. We will do it and confirm.
The two things that leave your device
We would rather name these plainly than claim nothing ever happens.
Recitation audio
When you play a verse, the audio is streamed from a public Qur'an audio CDN rather than from us. That request carries your IP address to that provider, as any web request does. The text, the translations and the page itself are already on your device and are not fetched.
Sign-in email
The sign-in link is delivered through Google Workspace, which handles the message on our behalf.
Notifications
In the app, prayer reminders are scheduled by your own phone. There is no push server, no device token, and nothing is sent from us to you — which is also why reminders work with no signal. Turning them off removes them from the phone entirely.
Children
Sohbats is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect anything from anyone. There is nothing to collect unless an account is created.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. If a change ever means we collect something new, we will say so plainly rather than quietly amending the text.
